Hiking in the Chamonix Valley

Chamonix: Hiking Chamonix offers countless hiking routes for all abilities. Chamois, deer, eagles and a range of beautiful alpine flowers can all be seen and photographed.

You can ride the Aiguille du Midi cable car to an altitude of 3842m (12,680ft) and take in the breathtaking scenery. Descend by cable car back to the mid-station at the Plan d'Aiguille and then walk the steep, zig-zag, wooded track back down to Chamonix (3hrs).

Or take the Brevent lift to the top station at 2525m, take lots of photos and then follow the Tour of Mt Blanc route. Hike along the ridge, past the refuge of Bel Lachat, down through woods to the Merlet Animal Park and then back to the town of Chamonix by the "Petit Balcon Sud" (3 hrs).

Visit the Nature Reserve Exhibition at the Col des Montets. Then walk up above Le Tour to the top and a beautiful 360° view over France and Switzerland. (4hrs total).

Mt Blanc is roughly 60km (40 miles)(N-S) by 20km (10 miles)(W-E) and it's circumnavigation, the famous Tour of Mt Blanc, covers some 160km (100 miles). Walk round the massif in 6-10 days, passing through France, Italy and Switzerland. The walking tour can be completely self-sufficient: you carry all your own food and camp. Alternatively it can be done using hotels and mountain huts with vehicle support. That way you can really enjoy the scenery, take lots of photos and walk each day with just a light pack.

Prices are per person:

Group hikes (half day) - £15
Group hikes (full day) - £25
Group hikes (2 day) - £110 (refuge and half board accommodation included)
