Canyoning around Chamonix
Canyon de la Diosaz at Servoz is "the finest canyon in the northern Alps". The best time to visit is late August to the end of October when water levels are low. Over its length of 3.5km are 36 waterfalls, 25 of which can be jumped! The rock is a beautiful clear granite and the water clean but cold. The bottom of this canyon is the "Gorges de Diosaz" which is a major tourist attraction. This takes 6hrs. Just past Vallorcine and against the Swiss border are two excellent canyons of Barberine and Giettroz. The first is excellent for families and groups and needs only a 20min walk from the car. There is also a local canyon under the Plan d'Aiguille and descends for 1500m towards the valley floor. It's very challenging and is best in the autumn and takes 7hrs. Prices are per person including a dry suit and safety equipment.

Canyoning covers a wide range of difficulties with the common themes of
getting wet and having fun.

Rafting is a great ‘white knuckle ride’ and the Arve (at Chamonix) and
the Giffre (at Samoens) are popular local rivers. The Arve is very cold!
Take on the swirling rapids, the beautiful scenery and churning waves of
the alpine river with expert supervision and full safety equipment.
Kayaking around Chamonix is excellent but not well documented.
