Lessons and Passes in Chamonix If you are traveling by air then a 6-day or 13-day pass would be adequate. It is very unlikely you will have time to hit the slopes on your arrival day as the lifts close at around 1645h. Beginners Chamonix doesn’t only consist of off-piste, almost half of the available runs are suitable for Beginners. The nursery slopes at La Vormaine, Les Chosalets, Les Planards and Le Savoy are perfect to brush up on your technique. There are a number of free lifts on the nursery slopes so most beginners will not need a full lift pass for the first couple of days. Most people with less than 4 weeks experience are better off getting a local area pass as you are unlikely to get the full benefit of the Valley Pass which links the resorts of Courmayer and Les Houches. Beginners do not need expensive equipment and should always have lessons pre booked during the school holidays. Beginner (5 x 2 hour) adult group lessons are available from 1000h-1200h Sunday or 1200h-1400h Mon-Fri and cost around £98.
Intermediates Chamonix is a paradise for intermediate skiers and boarders, with 726 kilometers of pistes available on the Valley Pass, all with an excellent range of high altitude blue and red runs. For snowboarding there's a fun park and half-pipe up on the Grands Montets. The natural half-pipe at Le Tour is long and the terrain is perfect for free riding. Les Houches and Le Tour offer cruising blues and reds. In Les Houches, the slopes of Prarion and Bellevue are gentle tree-lined blue and red runs, ideal as a warm up and to improve your technique. Le Brevent offers easy runs, except perhaps the famous red ‘Mur du Brevent’ (Brevent’s wall), but there’s now a blue run around it. La Flégère consists in a mix of blue and red, with long pistes that can be tiring. Les Grands-Montets attracts a lot of people due to its location and is often crowded. Intermediate (4 x 3 hour) adult group lessons are available from 0900h-1200h or 1400h-1700h Mon-Tues, Thurs-Fri and cost around £98.
Advanced Chamonix offers the most impressive challenges to be found for advanced skiers and boarders. This is really the place to be for experienced skiers and boarders who are keen to go off-piste and experience fresh powder. Les Grands-Montets offers all types of skiing, like moguls with La Herse, a red-black run of five kilometers of moguls, or La Pendant, a big mix of rock cliffs and powder. At La Flégère there are several good off-pistes routes like the Combe Lachenal. From the higher point of Le Tour, you can descend over towards Vallorcine or into Switzerland. The Vallée-Blanche provides 24Km of unforgettable skiing in stunning scenery. Advanced levels should also consider private lessons for specialist tuition in handling bumps, off-piste or race training. Private ski lessons - 2 hours for 1 person from £56 (cheaper for 2 or more)
Lift Price Guide The lift pass has a 50% reduction for adults over 75 and for children under 4 it’s free! All passes from 2 days and over require a recent passport size photograph. WINTER 2006/2007 ‘CHAMONIX’ LIFT PASS
